Bush welcomes grandson named after great-grandfathers

George W. Bush is celebrating his family’s growth.

The 78-year-old former US president excitedly shared on social media the birth of his new grandson.

On Tuesday, August 6, Bush congratulated his daughter Barbara Pierce Bush and her husband Craig Coyne on the birth of their second child by posting a touching picture to Instagram.

The couple, who also have a two-year-old daughter named Cora Georgia, brought their son Edward Finn into the world only a few days ago.

In a sweet picture, Barbara and Craig are seen holding their newborn boy in a hospital bed. They look lovingly at their son, happiness lighting their features. Enter Edward Finn Coyne into the world. @laurawbush and I are proud grandparents of our newest blessing, born on August 4 and lovingly named in honor of his great-grandfathers, as Bush stated in his caption. “Congratulations to Barbara, Craig, and her older sister, Cora Georgia.”

On Monday, August 5, Jenna Bush Hager, Barbara’s twin sister, first shared the happy news. Co-anchor of the Today show Jenna posted on Instagram about how excited she was to become an aunt again.

Jenna, 42, wrote, “My sister had a little mister and I fell madly in love with Edward Finn!” as the caption for a collection of images that showed the memorable moments after Edward’s birth. In one shot, Jenna is shown tending to her baby nephew, while in another, Barbara is shown holding Edward while Jenna looks on in amazement. In the third picture in the gallery, Edward is shown looking peacefully at his mother while she is holding him.

Even though Jenna didn’t offer any more details on her nephew’s birth, the pictures show how happy the family was. As reported by Today.com, Edward was seen sporting a cap from NYU Langone Health, raising the possibility that Barbara gave birth at the prestigious New York City hospital.

Laura Bush and George W. Bush have already said how excited they are to become grandparents. Following the birth of Cora, Barbara and Craig’s baby, the former president and first lady expressed their happiness in a joint statement.

“With hearts full of gratitude, @laurawbush and I are delighted to announce the arrival of our new granddaughter. Barbara and Craig revealed in October 2021 that Cora Georgia Coyne was born in Maine on September 27, 2021, not far from their family home, where they were married. “We are happy and grateful that Cora is healthy and adorable.”
