Find Out What a Dirty Home Actually Looks Like

A neat appearance on the outside of someone’s home can be deceiving. But there are usually hints that show if a house is genuinely clean or whether it was merely a fast tidy up. If you suspect that a house isn’t as spotless as it appears, keep an eye out for these eight red flags.

The condition of tucked-away spots like corners, behind doors, and under furniture could be a red flag. Because dust and dirt tend to pile up in certain areas, cleaning them may be more of an aesthetic than a functional necessity. On the other hand, neat homes typically clear out these nooks and crannies as well.

An overwhelming aroma of freshness is another red flag. Even though a nice scent can make everything seem cleaner, it could be covering up aromas from things like neglected carpets, pet areas, or musty furniture. You won’t need strong air fresheners or scented candles in a really clean home because it will have an inherent freshness.

A further sign of infrequent cleaning is the accumulation of dust on surfaces such as shelves, gadgets, picture frames, or light fixtures. If you run your finger over the surfaces, you may be able to detect a thin coating of dust that was previously undetected during a brief cleaning. To have a spotless home, dusting inconveniently placed items on a regular basis is a must.
